For the seventh time, the Donau Lounge/Danube Lounge will present prominent authors at BUCH WIEN. The Donau Lounge is a "Danube-wide" cultural brand: besides Vienna, it has already taken place in Romania, Hungary and Ukraine. It makes first-hand experience while implementing the EU Danube Region Strategy.

The Ukrainian author and Ingeborg Bachmann Prize winner 2018 Tanja Maljartschuk reads from her book „Blauwal der Erinnerung“.
A novel about the forgotten Ukrainian folk hero Vyacheslav Lypynskyj, whose life is artfully linked to the life of the first-person narrator: she searches for traces in the past to be able to cope better with her own present.

During the discussion “The power of culture. How art, literature and music change Ukraine” Andreas Wenninger, Yuri Andruchovych and Marjana Gaponenko will talk about what art and culture can move and achieve – especially when politics and diplomacy get stuck.
The Ukrainian art and culture scene is incredibly fresh and exciting, yet we still know too little about it. This conversation takes place exactly 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Hence, the further question about the nowadays walls in Europe arises, but even more about how we can overcome them with the help of culture.
